The Ethnic Eight is a North East Society of Jesus and Mary College that aims to empower the young women of the Northeast states studying in the college. The society is distinctive for its focus on promoting the socio-cultural diversity of northeast India and its people, so as to create an inclusive development learning environment amongst JMC students.

 

The student members are from the Northeastern states, and for the past two years, the society has started taking students from Ladakh and Nepal as Ethnic Eight is the North East Society of Jesus and Mary College that aims to empower its members. The society is distinctive for its focus on promoting the socio-cultural diversity of northeast India and its people, so as to create an inclusive learning environment. The student members are from the 8 Northeastern states, and for the past two years, the society has included students from Ladakh and Nepal as well.

 

The society was founded in 2010 and has been organizing north-east centred socio-cultural events and fests since. Its members have made conscious efforts to showcase the rich and unique cultures of their states. Ethnic Eight is a reflection of the inter-mixing of various ethnicities across India in a spirit of camaraderie and mutual collaboration.
